Okay I don’t usually blog on Sundays but Melissa found this Motrin website ad about the pain of wearing your baby, it seemed like the prefect topic to blog about.
Check out the ad below where Motrin sympathyzes will all the pain of carrying your children and commiserates that this is what you do to feel like a Mom and bond with your child but how much it hurts.
Personally I found the ad not only inaccurate, but a bit dismissive of the purpose of Babywearing for moms. I think Babywearing is much more comfortable than holding your child around in your arms for a long time or carrying those heavy carseats around with the weight of your baby in them - that is a real killer!
To me the ad seems to suggest that the bonding suggested by babywearing is either overplayed or just something moms feel like they should do and not something they want to do. As a practical Mom, I know about the benefits of babywearing for the baby, but I do it for my benefit much of the time.

How much easier is it to cook dinner with your baby on your back in an Ergo or a Becco than to constantly be trying to amuse them or monitor them at while racing around the stove? How much more enjoyable are parties when you have 2 hands to eat while you chat with friends and relatives? How many times have you failed to get your newborn to sleep until you put them close against you in a sling and they were asleep within minutes?
Do you agree with Motrin? Find the ad funny? Offensive? Let us know!
P.S. In honor of Motrin, we’re offering 10% off any baby carrier sold by Let’s Go Strolling for one week (through November 24th). Use code ILUVTOCARRY at checkout.
P.S. Motrin has pulled the ad as of Monday, November 17th and posted an apology on their website. Kudos to the power of moms everywhere to make their voices heard!
