Okay, we strategically got the president of Baby Jogger to give you your own personal tour of the Baby Jogger City Select, on preview at the ABC Show in Las Vegas.
This stroller which has been generating quite a buzz is due out in January 2010 and the single will retail for $499. It will be available in Black, Red and Stone colors. While we could go into all the bells and whistles of this amazing new stroller, we’ll just make you watch the video we put together of our tour of the new City Select. Ok, it’s a bit long but if you’re remotely considering this stroller, it is definitely worth watching!
If you’re a summary kind of guy or gal though here they are:
Jo and Melissa’s top 10 reasons we loved the brand new Baby Jogger City Select stroller (besides the great push):
1) It’s really easy to turn it from a single to a double stroller in under a minute (and for $169)!
2) Parents of twins contain yourselves: it can take 2 carseats AND 2 bassinets AND a ride-on board
3) If you get it as a single stroller and never add on the second seat, you will still love your stroller
4) It has the easiest fold for a reversible stroller on the market (that we know of!)
5) It has a huge basket – yes we live in the US and love our basket space
6) It has the Baby Jogger name behind it so even if there are 1st generation hiccups, they will make it right by you
7) It should fit through any doorway even as a double (except maybe those weird old NYC apt buildings)
8)You can mix and match colored seats for a fun, personalize-able look
9) They are working on accessories to turn it into an on-the-go high chair too!
10) It has full featured seats (4 reclines, nice canopy, padding, etc)

Awesome storage console for City Select
What didn’t we like?
1) Basically the seat height even on the tallest canopy setting was still small. Not for those of us with uber-tall children (although the push for tall parents is very comfortable)
2) The weight for a single isn’t too crazy (28lbs) but not the lightest either. A compromise we think a lot of parents will be fine with though with the easy fold.
So without further ado: Here’s the real scoop!
Up Next: the rest of the BJ line-up changes!

this is what i’ve been waiting for!!! GIMME GIMME GIMME!!
i had a phil and teds which i loved as a double but it’s a boring single and sold it as soon as it was down to a one-seater. this is a stroller i’d use as a sigle or double and stick on the ride-on board. i just hope it’s utbefore my baby gets here in jan! thanks for this post! this is the one i’ve been watching for!
Where can I get a preorder?? My new baby will be here february and my twins are under 2- this is perfect!
I think I “need” to have another baby for this stroller!!! LOL!
It’s AWSOME ….BUT why does the seat have to be so short?
(
(
Baby jogger always has such a great tall seats, I want this but my daughter will for sure be touching the top of the canopy most likley, Thats a bit dissapointing
The fold is (like butter) Overall I would have loved this from birth, but most likey not for my 2 year old
This is incredible!! I have always, always loved BJ…now I wish I had a little one still riding enough to justify another BJ. Thanks for the wonderful video!
ps…please tell me thisis one of your giveaways:)
and i agree with tammy, what’s up with the short seats?
As far as the short seats, I don’t know why BJ did it but I do know that most strollers nowadays (the quinny, bumbleride..) have pretty short seats and my kids are all pretty short. Maybe it has something to do with the recline?
Oh my goodness! I need this…
Is the seat so short that my average height three year old would have an issue? (He’s 38″ tall)
I might have missed this… do you have a weight limit for each seat?
now now now now….
i want it now….
now now now….
oh goodness….where can I hide *this* one….
LOVE IT!
Wow! I have been starting to research double strollers and this one might actually be as close to perfect as they get! Thank you so much for all the information! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Did you give it a push around? is it lightweight or heavy to push, especially in two seat mode? Also, do you do international delivery? Thanks!
I don’t understand “short” what are the actual dimensions of the seat height?
I can’t wait for this stroller to come out. What a great addition to the Baby Jogger line of strollers!! They are a great company with great strollers . . . just another one to add to the collection.
[...] How do I love you Baby Jogger City Select – Let me count the ways [...]
Dear Naomi,
We did push it around and it seemed to push really well. I put my 20 month old in it and it pushed well but I didn’t try it with two kids so I can’t promise a fab push with two kids yet!
FYI – We work with an international shipping partner iShop-USA to do international delivery.
Thanks for reading our blog!
You are too funny Sharon!
Dear Corey,
The seat is of the height that an average 3 year old would be growing out of it shortly I think. . . I put my larger 20 month old in it and she had some growing room but not a ton.
I hope that helps!
How rugged/durable is this stroller? Can I jog with it? Can it go off-roading? I’m leaning toward a Phil & Ted’s, but I can’t use an infant car seat with it.
i have my second baby due at the end of March! I want to get this as my double stroller, i think! do you know when it will be out to ‘test’…and when it can be ordered…and what is the total cost with accessories included! thanks!
Dear Ashley,
It should be out in early January 2010. We will have it up for ordering as soon as we can get photos of it for our website. Please check back or feel free to email us and we can tell you when it is up! We’ll try to post about it being up on our blog too!
Dear Jill,
Thanks for reading our blog. You definitely can’t run with the Baby Jogger City Select. It’s really a walking stroller/not a jog stroller or off-road stroller. While you can’t officially use a carseat with the Phil and Ted’s with 2 kids (it’s not tested), many of our customers do this and find it works just fine for them. If you want something more rugged I would go with the Phil and Ted’s or check out the Valco Trimode (although that is not 2 kid and carseat compatible.)
Of course another option is the Bumbleride Indie Twin/Valco Twin Trimode/Baby Jogger City Elite Double which are carseat compatible and rugged side-by-side doubles!
I hope this helps!
I am really excited about this stroller! I am a little concerned about the seat height, but my daughter is on the smaller side, so it may work. I was wondering if you may know the width of it? I have a valco trimode & it annoys me how much the rear wheels stick out.
thanks for the great info and video. I look forward to seeing it available on your site.
Can you tell me how it compares to the Uppababy Vista 2010 model? Mainly, I would like to use the stroller on dirt roads or be able to push through grass at the park. I know Uppababy can handle this terrain. Can the City Select?
Hi,
I am a first time mom and am thinking of buying it for a one baby, do you think its the right choice or would you recomend something else, was also looking at the bugaboo bee… but this stroller seems to answer all my needs? the only thing is, is it really heavy ??
thanks a lot
Hi
Can you please do a comparison with the uppa baby. I am buying this for my son who is 6 mo 22lbs 25in I really need a stroller that can accommodate his growth at least until age 2. My 3 1/2 year old may also occasional ride in it for a nap she is petite only 28 lbs 37in. I would really appeciate it.
Thank you,
OMG…. I *need* this stroller! It’s absolutely perfect.
I have a single Mutsy, and would love to make it a double, but that’s not an option.
This is the perfect solution to my new ‘issue’- 2 kids 13m apart.
i am getting this!!!!…i cannot wait im due in 4 weeks with my #2…they will be 18 months apart
i have found my dream…the 2 most important things i was looking for was a big basket and can i hang my diaper bag on the handle bar!!!…you guys made my dream come true and the fold….i just sent this link to 4 of my friends who are expecting their #2’s and also will have 2 under 2…
you should cal this mothers dream city select
so cool! i love baby jogger, we have the elite double and mini single- they make super cool strollers with HUGE hoods! hope the city select lives up to the rest of their line
i want one!!
Looks like the perfect solution for me! Baby #2 is due in July ‘10 and Baby #1 will be 27mos at that time. Was seriously considering Uppa Vista but hesitant because the add on seat can only face in with the car seat is in place (if I recall correctly). Not sure if my son would like that. I love that the bassinet is additional/optional since not 100% sure we’ll need it.
Two questions regarding height of users. How well does the handle adjust? My husband is 6 ft tall and I am 5′ 1″. Also, is the real axle out of the way so that he doesn’t kick it while walking?
Thanks for the video!
I want this stroller. Baby 2 due in March and Baby 1 will only be 12 months – seems like this stroller has the total package that I’ve been looking for!
Does anyone know more information about when this stroller is coming out?
My local store has it on order, but the date is still unclear, even to them! I feel uncomfortable pre-ordering until I actually see it in person and spend some time with it.
I am so jealous I just got the phil and teds a few months ago and I wish I knew this stroller existed my girls are 4 months old and 2 yrs old this would have been so perfect!!
My wife is expecting twins soon, and this looks like it would be ideal. Can you put infant car seats on this thing? It looks like you can, but am not positive. Will it support most major brands or do they have their own infant seats?
Any answers would be great.
Despite the single being a blatant design rip-off of my Bugaboo (which I love), this is the best double stroller I’ve seen.
Sure would be nice if Bugaboo would come out with a double!
Just test drove the city select at the Buy Buy Baby store in chelsea (only store that has it right now). Like many of you, I was very excited about this product, but having seen and tested it first hand, I’m somewhat let down. First, the plastic seems to be very low grade as compared to the bugaboo. When the saleswoman was showing my wife and I the adjustability of the canopy, the plastic clipping mechanism broke in half – not a good sign. Also, the frame seemed to be a bit to narrow for the seat. In order to slide the seat into the slots on either side of the frame, I had to force the frame apart. I suppose the frame could have been bent during shipping, but there was definitely something not right. I also noticed that the fold was not a simple as shown on the youtube video being circulated. In order to fold while in tandem mode, the leg rest of the back seat MUST be all the way down, other wise it catches the back of the front seat, preventing the stroller from folding. On the video, it did not appear that anything had to be adjusted to fold the stroller. The only requirement stated was that both seats be facing forward. I now know that this is not the case. Finally, the shocks are nowhere near the quality of the other bugaboo-like strollers. In fact, the back wheels do not have any shocks at all and the shocks on the front wheels have very little travel. All that said, Baby Jogger is still the only one taking an affirmative step to create the ultimate tandem stroller and they are definitely going in the right direction. The stroller does look great and it rode very smooth in the store. I just hope that BJ are prepared to handle the service issues that are sure to come piling in…
Has anyone road-tested it outside rather than just in store? Does it go down kerbs easily or does it need a kick to go down steep ones? Is there much sideways give ie does it steer when you tell it to or 3 seconds after? I so want this stroller but big price commitment for something i’m not going to be able to try first
I’m soon to be a first-time mom in March and am going crazy on the stroller decision. If anyone can give me some advice I’d appreciate it! I’m torn between this (for plans to have another child not too far in the future) and the City Mini (for the better price and lower weight). There aren’t any stores in my area where I could see these before purchasing, so I appreciate the feedback/advice!
Bugaboo who? Too bad Bugaboo waited to make a double. They missed the mark here. Baby Jogger beat em to the punch and deserves the kudos it has been receiving. I have this stroller and don’t even look at my Bugaboo anymore.
Im one of the lucky one to actually see this floor model at buybuybaby. I love the stroller except for the price. Its a high end version of Kolcraft Contours tandem stroller. If money is no object to you Kolcraft works fine. The City Select has rear air tires – swivels easily, the seats are also easily removable, fold easily, my family is average height so the seat size is no issue to me, basket is big !!!
I went and saw the floor model over the weekend. I had a high hopes and was ready to buy it right then and there, since I have a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old and I desperately need a double stroller. I own the City Mini, and I adore it, I find it to be the ultimate single stroller. So I am a fan of the brand and was hoping that this was it for me. Unfortunately there were a couple of things that left me wondering, so I’m taking some time to think things over.
- As a previous commenter noted, the seats have to be in a particular position in order for it to fold, it is not seamless. The footrest needs to be angled in a certain way, which is definitely an extra step. In the video you see the guy doing it very quickly, without mentioning it, but it’s not so seamless when you’re the one doing it.
- Another issue was that the clip that secures the canopy to the seat was already broken, on both sides, after only a few days on the floor. Not a good sign.
- If the main seat faces you, and the front seat faces forward, you cannot recline the main seat. They both have to face forward in order to recline. This would be a problem, having the baby facing you in the main seat and being unable to recline them for a nap.
- The issue that has me the most concerned is the fact that the seats are short. It’s supposedly only a half an inch shorter than the City Mini seat (both in the seat area and from the knee down, so one inch overall) but it looks and feels like a bigger difference. My 2-year-old is of average height and she fits just right, with absolutely no room to grow.
Overall the stroller is a bit overpriced for what it is, but it seems to drive very well, has some clever details just like the other Baby Jogger models, the fold still beats most strollers, and the basket underneath is really spacious. However as a double stroller it gets quite long and train-like, which I guess is part of the deal and cannot be avoided. I am using a borrowed Phil and Ted’s now so I am not accustomed to the extra length.
These are my 2 cents for now. I might go see it again and if I have extra feedback I will post another comment.
Hi all, I have the city select and have been looking for the right stroller for quite some time and could not see anything that was exactly what I needed til I seen this
I absolutely love it and it’s as easy to use as shown in the video. I’m 5 11′ and my husband is 6 2′ and its perfect for taller parents and our son is 2yrs old and above average height and has plenty on room in the stroller for growth.. My 2 month is in the car seat up front while he sits frontways below and I can’t see it looking trainlike. I think its quite compact plus I could get a lot of shopping done with the massive storage basket underneath. It’s also extremely easy to push even uphill and round corners. Okay I think thats about it, I hope I help you with your decisions. Goodluck.
I have the uppababy vista and while I loved it as a single stroller I was not so thrilled with it as a double. First because I felt my children would be unable to interract with each other. Plus I would lose some basket space to feet. Third I didnt like that the rumbleseat didn’t recline. I looked everywhere for a double stroller that I felt would meet my new needs with a second on the way and i think Ive finally found it. My only problem with it is the colors and that the rain covers have to be purchased separately. Do you know if they plan to come out with more colors? Or are they sticking to just red, white, and black?
No they are going to come in more vibrant colors, similar to the bugaboo colors.
Does anyone know if you have to have the second seat for the bassinet to work? Or can you just get the bassinet accessory?
I was eagerly waiting the arrival of this stroller. I’ve now been using it for almost 2 weeks and have to say I haven’t been disappointed. I love this stroller. Having 2 kids I don’t always want to lug around a double stroller AND a single in the car. With the Select I’m able to just have one stroller and never need to worry if I remembered to grab the correct stroller.
Sure, I wish the seats were a bit taller – my 3yo fits perfectly with not to much more room to grow – but then I imagine the stroller would have to be longer/wider to compensate for the extra seat height. I much prefer to lose a little in the seat height (which can be resolved by removing the canopy) and have a more compact stroller frame.
I have some more info to add. The other day I ran into a friend got the City Select and had her 4-month old twins in it the other day. She said she likes it a lot, even if it feels heavy. I tried pushing it and saw what she meant – with the two babies in it, I couldn’t tilt up the front wheel as you often do to go over a curb. I am 5′ 9” and in good shape, and it was just very hard to do. Then yesterday I saw that they have a video review up on Amazon where they suggest sitting the heaviest kid in the main seat, not the add-on seat up front, which would shift most of the weight away from the front, thus making it more maneuverable. I live in NYC, walk all the time, and go over a lot of curbs – and I would definitely want my 2-year-old to sit up front, not the baby (you don’t have so much access to whoever is in the front – check out the video on Amazon, there is a segment that goes through a bunch of different positions, and it gives you a good idea of what they really look like) so I am not sure that it’ll be the stroller for me. (I’ll probably go with the City Mini Double, which is less than 4 inches wider, and which might work better for my needs.) But overall the City Select looks really nice, and the basket is just awesome. I can see this stroller being the perfect solution for a lot of people, depending on your lifestyle and where you live.
I figured I’d also post the specs that I received from BJ Customer Service, since they can come in handy when you are making your decision.

JV- some questions for you since you seem remarkable informed! Your fried with the 4 month old twins; how did she have them in the stroller? I ask because I read somewhere that you shouldn’t put babies under 6 months in the seats that come with this stroller and I have 8 week old twins and I’m torn between this and the bumbleride indie twin… Do you have any advice? Also, could you put a diaper bag on the handle? Thanks!!!
dana – that’s not a problem, you get wedge shaped inserts for bucket seats which make the whole thing flat – I have just gotten this pushchair (not road-tested yet so will comment later) and I would be perfectly happy putting a newborn in the seat with a wedge and a footmuff.
Hi Dana – she had them in the regular seats, facing each other – the seats were very reclined, I don’t remember if they were all the way horizontal or almost. Either way, they seemed very comfy! I know they say that they are for 6 months and over, but they say that about many strollers, meanwhile I see a lot of parents using the seats with babies younger than 6 months who already have decent head control. Especially if the seats are reclined. It seemed like a perfect arrangement from my point of view. You could get an extra head support if your babies are not quite ready yet, or something like Jodi mentions, which sounds interesting.
I am pretty sure she had a diaper bag hanging from the handlebar, I don’t see why not, it’s just like a regular stroller, you have the space for it. And it’s heavier if anything, I didn’t see any risk of tipping! I couldn’t tip it if I wanted to. So that should be good too.
Hi there I have now subjected my lovely shiny new pushchair to a rigorous test-drive and couldn’t be (much) happier! Myself, my husband and a friend took turns pushing a 3 yr old with a 1 yr old, comments that follow are combined and unanimous:
1) steering is absolutely brilliant, a little heavy but much better than any other double i’ve pushed.
tonnes of small but brilliant features that are going to greatly improve my life: basket sides are elasticated so are accessible from every side and whatever position kids are in, hand operated brake ingenious and saves muddy boots/hurting feet in wearing flipflops, handle easily adjustable, seat positioning obviously!
2) not as long as I originally thought, and certainly doesn’t look or feel long either
3) seats recline in all positions better than I expected, although sometimes you need to put a certain bit down before another bit or adjust the footrest etc, so not perfect but v good.
4) very small fold – my husband was sold on the fold alone!
5) huge hood rendering parasols and raincovers things of the past
6) very easy to put together and take apart, even wheels – comments about hood clips breaking I can understand if they’re being used to demonstrate the hood heights for people in shops every 2 minutes – I took care with mine but they seem sturdy enough
7) front suspension good but not overwhelming, and I would prefer rear suspension too bearing in mind that it IS hard to lift over kerbs – you need to push with your foot against the bottom bar simultaneously with pushing the handlebar down to get better leverage. However, handles low kerbs fine as it pushes right over them.
9) 3 year old tester had tonnes of headroom even with the hood down on the lower setting. also worth mentioning that when you put the hood higher, the gap between the bottom of the hood and the top of the seat is covered by a mesh liner
10) looks great – mines a diamond and would like to mention it isn’t white so don’t worry about marks if that’s putting you off getting that colour – more of a grey/stone colour
11) you could hang 10 diaper bags from the handlebar and it not tip over
Hope that’s helpful!
Hello. For those that have tried this stroller with an older child, I have a question about the seat height (like many others). My son is 3 and ~38″. Has anyone used/tried this with a child 38″ or taller? Does the canopy cover their heads? Do their feet dangle over?
Also, there are a few configurations that have the children facing each other, and the “lower” child’s feet appear to rest in the foot basket. Does this give some additional length for the older child? I am mostly thinking of the times when the older one gets tired and wants to rest or take a nap. I would like him to be fairly comfortable.
Thanks!
Jodi- Do you know what those wedge shaped foam inserts are called and where I could purchase them? Thanks!
I was thinking about getting the Onyx. I have not yet seen that color in the store and was wondering if it is more on the white side or the gray side?
The Onyx is black. The Diamond is the white color. Haven’t seen the Diamond in person. Sorry.
I have read that the diamond is more grey than white but that said, I still don’t want to be cleaning shoe marks off my grey stroller everyday, so I ordered the black.
We just got ours last weekend. Our other stroller is a Bugaboo Bee that DD has outgrown at 12 months and she is only 50% for weight and 85% for height. We’re using the City Select as a single for now.
Things I love about the City Select:
Super easy fold (it takes getting used to to open it up though)
Super easy seat flip
Very spacious for DD and apparently very comfy for her too as she falls asleep easily in it.
Well balanced (I do have to put some body weight into getting it up the curb but that’s bc I’m so short)
Turns well (but the Bee turns better… but this could be due to the difference in wheel size)
Takes cobblestone easily (I live in Europe so this is key)
My Bugaboo cup holder fits on the handle bar
Things I don’t love about the City Select:
The City Select is enormous compared to the Bee. I am 5′0″ and I feel like it’s a little overwhelming for me but this was true of all strollers that we tested out before choosing the Bee originally.
The mesh on the back of the hood covers the button to recline the seat (I have the hood on the shorter setting right now)
You have to unzip the gusset of the basket to get in anything big
The rain cover is sold separately (boo!)
The City Select does not fit in my apartment elevator! I have to remove one back wheel to get the stroller in. It also does not fit through the turnstiles of the Milan metro system
You have to make sure to click the wheel blocks to swivel or they will lock up by themselves. Not a big deal but I couldn’t figure out why one wheel kept locking up every time I stopped.
Hi there. I just bought a Phil and Ted’s Sport double. I am expecting a baby in March andmy son will be 2 1/2. I am thinking about returning the Phil and Ted’s and gettin the City Select, bu I had a question. To start off I could simply purchase the singl stroller and the car seat adapter and it would accomodate mynewborn and todder correct. Just not looking forward to reaking the bank allat once
. Thanks
Kristin,
For tandem mode, you’ll need the extender arms as well, which are only sold with the second seat, so you’ll have to budget for an additional $159.
Hi, can anyone tell me the length of the City Select if you have the carrycot/pram attachment at the bottom and then the toddler seat facing you at the top. i.e. the measurement from end of the carrycot pram all the way to the end of the handle bars?
I’m in the UK..and need to check it will fit my elevator before I order from the US!! It looks fabulous… nothing like it for sale here. Thank you.
The specs state that when used as a double, the stroller is 53 inches long. I got a measuring tape out – and wow! – it seems like a train! But, in the video demos, the stroller does not seem that long. Those of you that have seen/used it in person, does it feel that long? (I don’t have any stroller stores in my area to see it for myself.) Thanks!
I checked out the Select in the store today and was impressed. I have a Phil and Teds and compared the lengths in the store by eyeballing. Looked about the same to me, although I didn’t check the specs. Oh, where was this stroller when my twins were born?
I live in Argentina, I am between Phil & Teds and the city select , I ll have a 19 month and new born baby…
Thabk you!
I just got a city select for my 7 month old twins and have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! It does not feel like a “train” the way most front/back doubles do. It fits everywhere when out and about with it. A few things to note that dont show on the video, when the seats are reclined facing each other they can lay fully flat but they extend the size of the stroller. As others mentioned you need to change the “foot” part of the seats when folding or moving seats into different arrangements. The front wheels lock or move. Overall I just cant say enough good things about it!!
Hi Hannah…I also have twins and am torn between the baby jogger city select (tandem) and the new stroll Air duo (side by side). Both have the reversible seats that I am seeking. The only thing a few twin parents have commented to me is that it feels like you only can see one baby when pushing if they are both facing you. what are your thoughts after owning it for your twins? I have 4 month old twins and a 4 year old
I think most comments here are from moms but this is a to-be dad’s perspective. I have tested this out at a store in Los Angeles and liked it a lot. That said I’m 6′3″ so the weight and size issue isn’t as much a concern for me as it is my wife. I have friends with the UppaBaby Vista who love it, but they only plan on having one child. Comments that I have read from people who have tried the 2 baby set-up on the Vista suggest it falls short.
I noticed that just about every City Select owner who commented on this post seems to love it. The people who have been most critical of it are the ones who tried it in the store and felt it didn’t measure up to the Bugaboo or Phil and Ted. And yet I have read more negative reviews by owners of both those two brands than of Baby Jogger or UppaBaby. It’s really insane how different everyone’s perspective is and it makes it difficult to choose. And it seems like a lot of the opinions from non-owners are missing information that owners have proven is either irrelevant or factually incorrect.
Anyway, I’m still torn between the Vista and the City Select – we’ll see what happens in the coming days. Best of luck to those still searching.
I just ordered the City Select and can’t wait until it arrives. (It’s supposed to be here the end of March barring any further delays by BJ) I have a 20 month old and a 2 week old and am so excited to finally have a stroller that seems to fit all my needs perfectly! I’ll post my “experiences” soon.
