Well it was bound to happen. Ever since Bugaboo released the Bugaboo Cameleon and then a couple years later, the Bugaboo Bee, the man in the middle, the flagship frog has fallen out of favor.
Personally I have never seen the value of the Bugaboo Frog once the sexy Cameleon with all of its improved features came along. Not only could you make it unique and pretty with the multiple color pairings, but it had adjustable height, adjustable suspension, a bigger basket and most importantly, a bigger seat. It seemed to take the Frog and just make it better for about 3 more pounds (and $150). To me – if you wanted the Bugaboo features and were willing to brave the price tag – why not get the ultra-luxe Cameleon?
Now it’s the new economy and emphasis is not on ultra-luxe but on value. Bugaboo has just released a new price change for the Frog. It is now an impressive $130 cheaper. That means $130 more of carseats, cribs or whatever else baby needs.
Whether the Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Bee are still the Bugaboos of choice during this value-conscious era remains to be seen. I for one, still vote on the Bee (easy fold, very portable) or the Cameleon if you are strolling outdoors a lot and like the Bugaboo style. I like the added longevity from the bigger seat as well as the handlebar height and bigger basket. At this new price point though – I can understand giving the Bugaboo Frog a second look!

How does the Bugaboo Frog Stack Up in the Crowd?

The only thing that I don’t care for with the Frog is the small basket, but then again, the Micralite Toro Newborn (similar price point) has a very small and difficult to access basket, too. In fact, I prefer the Frog to the Cameleon. Weight is one of the most important factors for me, though.
I love the Bee, but it seems like a baby would outgrow it rather quickly (low height of the canopy, very narrow seat). Wouldn’t it be great if all of these strollers went down $100? I still keep changing my mind about our future stroller purchase. I don’t know why, but this is becoming one of the most difficult decisions of my life!
Dear Erica,
Not to worry. A lot of people have trouble choosing their stroller. IT might just be because there is not one that fits all your needs so it is a matter of prioritizing! The Bee seat is actually a bit longer than the Cameleon and Frog so you might find that has the most growing room of the bugaboos although it is a bit narrower with the wings.
Best,
Jo
