Okay I have to admit, I have had 3 kids and had an epidural each time , for one reason or another. Although my goal was initially a drug-free childbirth, I was lucky and just blessed with three healthy children instead.
That being said (admitted), I still really loved the idea behind the movie documentary, the Business of Being Born that was produced by Ricki Lake.
I think it is a very honest look at birthing in America today and the advantages and and some of disadvantages we suffer due to the very hospitalized birthing process for the majority of Americans. I believe there is a very real time and place for OB/Gyns and the lifesaving work they do and I think that this movie allows for that. It also gives an honest assessment of what we give up by cutting midwives out of the mainstream medical system in most places in the US.
Let’s Go Strolling is proud to be a sponsor of Ricki’s Room - a blog and message board arena on the web where pregnant woman, their partners, anyone can go to educate themselves or others about possible birthing options. The message boards don’t stop there! As a resource to the thousands of women using this board, there are also forums on products/gear (like strollers - our personal favorite!)
Let’s Go Strolling is giving away one “The Business of Being Born” DVD to a lucky Strolling Along blog reader. Send us an email to (info@letsgostrolling.com) with your full name and State and we’ll enter you automatically. Winners will be announced at the end of August so hurry and enter now!
