I have to say, I've done both and find the rubber band method really annoying. It worked fine as an emergency measure (when the bustier was dirty or forgotten), but was too fussy for me. Maybe I did something wrong, but I could never get the funnel to stay in place until the pump was running, and still it kept slipping. I also found that futzing with the rubber bands was way more annoying than zipping up the bustier. Yes, the bustier costs money. But for my 9 months of pumping 4 days a week, it was well worth the 30 bucks I spent for the headaches saved.
